My first thought as I awakened was to smile at what a ridiculous dream I had just had, and to consider how sore the back of my head was.
A crazy whisky-fuelled dream, of a little alien who could speak my language and had elicited a sperm sample from me on a strange craft, ha ha! Where could such madness have come from, I wondered.
But then I wondered some more, and thought, did that really happen though?
And then I heard a rather high pitched squeaky kind of noise coming from the direction of the kitchen, and I recognised that noise.
And then another rather similar but lower pitched noise. I was fairly sure it was voices, and not from a dream. But voices? Plural! And not human.
And then I heard the much more familiar tinny robotic voice of Aileen, yes Aileen. And I could just make out what she was saying. Why was she speaking through the translator ring though?
‘But still... I would like to take him with us,’ she said. ‘I think he’ll agree to come, but even if not, I’d like to take him with us. We do have a use for him. He is quite educated you know. He thinks he’s educated.’
This elicited more squeaky squealing.
‘They’re here!’ I exclaimed.
So, with much trepidation and some unsteadiness, I rose from the bed, pulled on all of my clothes and walked through to the kitchen doorway, and there they were. Three little green creatures sitting round the kitchen table, each with a mug in front of them and sipping water. I was momentarily unsure of which one was Aileen, until I saw she was the only one with the neck ring on. Could they understand her even as she was speaking with that on? I presumed so.
And then I noticed that the other two were slightly larger. Older? Or males?
They each looked up at me as I stood in the open doorway, blinking in a shaft of sunlight that was streaming towards me.
They looked guilty. I swear they looked guilty, like three naughty children caught raiding their father’s drinks cupboard. I don’t know how I thought I could detect guilt in these little green big-eyed heads, but I did.
‘It’s a sunny day,’ my Aileen said, looking towards me. ‘We needed water.’
I nodded. Rather stunned.
‘So... you’ll be going then?’ I asked, briefly looking outside for a spacecraft, or a whatever-craft, but finding none.
The two new green guys - somehow I just decided they were guys, sipped a little more water and looked at me, but were silent.
‘Yes, we’ll be going,’ Aileen confirmed, ‘and soon... but I’d like you to come with us. I’d like to show you. I’d like to take you through with us.’
‘Oh! So I may have a choice then?’
‘Eh... you may.’ And she looked at me, quite tenderly I felt, then added, ‘Please come. We’ll bring you back.’
‘Ah... yes, after you have made your use of me, eh? And after you have wiped out all of my memories?’
‘Perhaps,’ she said.
‘Perhaps?’ I asked.
